Installing SayThrough on iPad, Chromebook and Android

SayThrough is a web app, so there is nothing to download from an app store and no licence to manage. Installing it simply means adding it to the home screen — after which it opens full-screen, launches like any other app, and works with no internet at all.

iPad and iPhone (Safari)

1. Open saythrough.com/app/ in Safari. It has to be Safari — on iOS, other browsers cannot install web apps.
2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow coming out of it).
3. Scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

The icon appears on the home screen and opens full-screen with no address bar. If you use Guided Access to lock a child into a single app, it behaves exactly as an App Store app does.

Chromebook, Chrome and Edge

1. Open saythrough.com/app/.
2. Click the install icon in the address bar — a small screen with a downward arrow — or open the browser menu and choose Install SayThrough.
3. Confirm. It appears in the launcher and can be pinned to the shelf.

On a managed Chromebook, an administrator can also push SayThrough to every device as a web app through the Google Admin console, so students find it already installed. There are no licences to buy or assign.

Android

1. Open saythrough.com/app/ in Chrome.
2. Open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Notes for schools and IT

SayThrough was built with school networks in mind, since they are usually the most restricted environment it has to run in. There is a fuller guide to rolling it out across a school, including classroom practice and what free does not cover.

• One domain to allow: saythrough.com. The app, its symbols and its voices are all served from that one origin — there are no third-party CDNs, trackers or font services to allow separately.
• No accounts, no logins, no per-seat licences. Nothing to provision at the start of the year and nothing to deprovision at the end of it.
• No student data leaves the device. Profiles, boards and message history stay in the browser's local storage. Nothing anyone types or says is ever transmitted.

Using it offline

Once installed and opened at least once, SayThrough runs with no connection at all. The app, the boards and the symbols used by the active page set are cached on the device. If you need the entire symbol library available offline — for a trip, or a building with no signal — there is an optional full symbol pack in Settings that downloads all of it in one go.
